If you’re visiting us for an upcoming woodland getaway in Sussex, you may have a few questions to ask leading up to your trip.

Can we have a fire or barbecue?
Each of our log cabin and yurt hires has its own fire pit and grill for BBQs. We sell our own seasoned logs for £10 for a large bag. These can be purchased at time of booking, by email or, on site. We also sell locally produced charcoal at £8 per bag. Fire pits must only be used in designated areas.
Can I bring my own logs?
You can bring your own logs with you to your woodland retreat, as long as they are kiln dried or well-seasoned and small in size to fit in the log burners in the cabins and yurts [up to 23cm long].
What information will you be sending prior to my arrival?
All our guests will receive via email or SMS a copy of our digital guest book which contains all the information you will need for your arrival, departure and explains how everything works, what to bring, what we provide etc.
What are the cooking facilities in the cabins and yurts?
Inside the log cabins and yurts, there is a double ring gas stove for cooking. There is also a fire pit with a separate grill for outdoor cooking.
What cooking utensils are provided?
The cabins and yurt hires are provided with essential cooking utensils, including a frying pan, saucepans, kettle, knives, forks, plates, cups etc.
Is there electricity in the woodland holiday accommodation?
There is limited power providing low voltage lighting for the cabins and yurts. There is a powerpoint for charging a mobile phone only. There is no fridge in the accommodation but guests can purchase ice from the village and use the cool box provided.
Can I come glamping with my dog?
We will accept well behaved dogs on site @ £10 per night, 1 dog per unit. Please enquire.
What time is check-in and check-out on-site?
Check in is between 17:00 – 19:00. Please text us when you arrive to your woodland retreat and are in reception. Check out is at 10:00am.
What do we do on arrival?
On arrival at Forest Garden Shovelstrode, please enter through the front gate which should be closed but not locked, and park your vehicle in the car park. There are wheelbarrows in the parking area [one wheelbarrow per unit] to carry your belongings down to the log cabin or yurt hire. We have a contactless self-check-in system and we are also available by phone or text to help with any questions that you might have for your woodland holiday. Full information about check in including a site map will be sent to all guests prior to their visit. This is in the form of a digital guest book which contains all the information you will need for your arrival, departure and explains how everything works, what to bring, what we provide etc.
Is bedding included?
Each yurt and log cabin hire is provided with bedding for one double bed [duvet, pillows, duvet cover, sheets etc]. However you will need to supply bedding for the second bed in your unit that will be used during your stay. N.B. We can provide bedding at an additional cost of £35 and this must be ordered at time of booking.
Do you provide towels?
We are unable to provide towels so please make sure you bring these with you.
What should I pack?
Check the weather forecast in advance of your woodland retreat so that you can pack appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember you will be in a forest surrounded by woodland, so appropriate footwear such as boots or wellingtons. We recommend packing sun protection, insect repellent and sun/rain hats along with torches and matches and hand sanitizer. Bedding is provided for only 1 double bed in each unit. Please bring any additional bedding you require, or order at time of booking. All cooking utensils are provided for you.
How far apart are the units from each other?
Our cabins and yurt hires are positioned throughout the woodland and are between 50 – 80 metres apart. Please see our location map
What is your cancellation policy?

Do you have WiFi on site?
There is no Wifi on site. Coming to Forest Garden Shovelstrode will give you the chance to escape from screens and electronic gadgets and to enjoy the pleasure of being surrounded by nature in a piece of ancient woodland! However, there is good 4G signal if you have to check your emails.
What are the cleaning protocols at Forest Garden Shovelstrode?
All of our woodland holiday accommodation and facilities are deep cleaned 3 times per week between bookings. The shared shower/loo and washing up facilities are regularly cleaned and checked throughout the day. Cleaning products, hand sanitisers and disinfectant spray are available at the shower/loo and washing up area.
Can we let off fireworks or Chinese lanterns?
No, we do not allow under any circumstances the use of fireworks or Chinese lanterns at our woodland retreat in Sussex.
