FAQs

If you’re visiting us for an upcoming woodland getaway in Sussex, you may have a few questions to ask leading up to your trip.

Each of our log cabin and yurt hires has its own fire pit and grill for BBQs. We sell our own seasoned logs for £10 for a large bag. These can be purchased at time of booking, by email or, on site. We also sell locally produced charcoal at £8 per bag. Fire pits must only be used in designated areas.
You can bring your own logs with you to your woodland retreat, as long as they are kiln dried or well-seasoned and small in size to fit in the log burners in the cabins and yurts [up to 23cm long].
All our guests will receive via email or SMS a copy of our digital guest book which contains all the information you will need for your arrival, departure and explains how everything works, what to bring, what we provide etc.
Inside the log cabins and yurts, there is a double ring gas stove for cooking. There is also a fire pit with a separate grill for outdoor cooking.
The cabins and yurt hires are provided with essential cooking utensils, including a frying pan, saucepans, kettle, knives, forks, plates, cups etc.
There is limited power providing low voltage lighting for the cabins and yurts. There is a powerpoint for charging a mobile phone only. There is no fridge in the accommodation but guests can purchase ice from the village and use the cool box provided.
We will accept well behaved dogs on site @ £10 per night, 1 dog per unit. Please enquire.
Check in is between 17:00 – 19:00. Please text us when you arrive to your woodland retreat and are in reception. Check out is at 10:00am.
On arrival at Forest Garden Shovelstrode, please enter through the front gate which should be closed but not locked, and park your vehicle in the car park. There are wheelbarrows in the parking area [one wheelbarrow per unit] to carry your belongings down to the log cabin or yurt hire. We have a contactless self-check-in system and we are also available by phone or text to help with any questions that you might have for your woodland holiday. Full information about check in including a site map will be sent to all guests prior to their visit. This is in the form of a digital guest book which contains all the information you will need for your arrival, departure and explains how everything works, what to bring, what we provide etc.
Each yurt and log cabin hire is provided with bedding for one double bed [duvet, pillows, duvet cover, sheets etc]. However you will need to supply bedding for the second bed in your unit that will be used during your stay. N.B. We can provide bedding at an additional cost of £35 and this must be ordered at time of booking.
We are unable to provide towels so please make sure you bring these with you.
What should I pack?
Check the weather forecast in advance of your woodland retreat so that you can pack appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember you will be in a forest surrounded by woodland, so appropriate footwear such as boots or wellingtons. We recommend packing sun protection, insect repellent and sun/rain hats along with torches and matches and hand sanitizer. Bedding is provided for only 1 double bed in each unit. Please bring any additional bedding you require, or order at time of booking. All cooking utensils are provided for you.
Our cabins and yurt hires are positioned throughout the woodland and are between 50 – 80 metres apart. Please see our location map
